prom, fulminate, endue, and money_funny
2002-05-28 5:31 p.m.

Hello all!

i just had a wonderful weekend.

It started out with a fly burning of unwanted school papers. then i moved onto a rockin party for Cat at the Akron House. next i got ready and went to prom. me and my date John Feltenburger and Amy Maas and Peter Ghazarian got everyone to start dancing. both prom and after prom were kind of boring but then we were forced to make our own fun and had a blast. it was soooo great. then on sunday i saw a "interesting" movie called Spirit about these animated horses. it was pretty good but i would only ever pay matinee price to see it. then monday was my birthday and i got to march in a parade as my last marching band experieince. then there was a great memorial day bbq/b-day party for me at the Cantoni's. it was tremendous b/c lauren and steve got me a frisky kitty that meows and moves when you tickle its nose. cat got me the complete stories of flannery o'connor - amazing. then jazz band concert on the green went very well and lisa and kevin gave me the twelve inch Jesus hands tamborine. it is sooooo AMAZING. then today doug peterson is amazing and gave me an advance copy of shadow puppets the sequal to shadow of the hedgemon. more amazing.

today was also my last half day of high school. then we had graduation rehersal. it was great up until they said i did not get my distinction ropes even though my cumlative gpa is high enough with this years gpa's averaged with it. i was very upset but they admit that they messed up so everything is great once more!!!!!

so uhhhhh yeah, here are some words:

fulminate FUL-muh-nayt,

intransitive verb:

1. To issue or utter verbal attacks or censures authoritatively or menacingly.

2. To explode; to detonate.

transitive verb:

1. To utter or send out with denunciations or censures.

2. To cause to explode.

This mass culture--global, immediate, accessible, buoyant, with shared heroes, models, and goals--is immensely intoxicating. Ayatollahs fulminate against it; dictators censor it; mandarins try to slam the door on it. --Lawrence M. Friedman, [1]The Horizontal Society

He lets others fulminate on his behalf while he maintains his gentlemanly demeanor. --Richard Sandomir, "Cablevision's Dolan Makes the Deal Only When He's Ready," [2]New York Times, December 6, 1998

Everyone wants to be young, beautiful and rich. I don't say that scornfully: there are worse things to want to be. But that's why, for example, people don't begrudge Kate Moss how much she earns for a day's work but will fulminate over the take-home pay of some fat, old Water Board exec. --Nigella Lawson, "Never mind the size, just feel the price," [3]The Observer, September 3, 2000 Fulminate comes from Latin fulminare, "to strike with lightning," from fulmen, fulmin-, "a thunderbolt."

endue (en-DOO, -DYOO) verb tr., also indue

1. To invest, bestow, or endow with a gift, quality, trait, or power.

2. To put on (an item of clothing).

[From Middle English enduen (to draw on), from Old French enduire (to lead in), from Latin inducere (to put on).]

What is one thing you'd do if you induce, douche, produce, subdue, seduce, reduce, or endue? You'll be leading on to something. The common link here is the Latin root ducere (to lead). And what do a noble duke and a lowly duct have in common. The same -- they lead. -Anu

"It's impossible to believe the style wasn't meant to serve as a serene respite from a messy world, to endue the owner with the same calmness and clearness of mind that its surfaces reflect." Rachel Brown, House of Denmark Makes a Home in Okemos, Greater Lansing Business Monthly (Michigan), Sep 01, 1995.

"If thou art beautiful, and youth

And thought endue thee with all truth --

Be strong; -- be worthy of the grace."

The White Doe of Rylestone: Canto 2, William Wordsworth

(1770-1850)
