2002-06-06 2:52 p.m.

yo yo yo

sorry i have not had much time on-line

things that are great:

i graduated from high school yesterday

ok well here are some words:

dilatory DIL-uh-tor-ee, adjective:

1. Tending to put off what ought to be done at once; given to procrastination.

2. Marked by procrastination or delay; intended to cause delay; -- said of actions or measures.

I am inclined to be dilatory, and if I had not enjoyed extraordinary luck in life and love I might have been living with my mother at that very moment, doing nothing. --Carroll O'Connor, [1]I Think I'm Outta Here

And what is a slumlord? He is not a man who own expensive property in fashionable neighborhoods, but one who owns only rundown property in the slums, where the rents are lowest and the where the payment is most dilatory, erratic and undependable. --Henry Hazlitt, [2]Economics in One Lesson

Dilatory is from Latin dilatorius, from dilator, "a dilatory person, a loiterer," from dilatus, past participle of differre, "to delay, to put off," from dis-, "apart, in different directions" + ferre, "to carry."

bete noire bet-NWAHR, noun:

Something or someone particularly detested or avoided; a bugbear.

Even more regrettable, as far as Dame Edna is concerned, is the presence of her old bete noire, the extravagantly disgusting Sir Les Patterson. --"The Dame's New Man," [1]Daily Telegraph, April 18, 1998

Never an exceptional student, Andrews somehow managed to navigate the academy's rigorous courses with satisfactory grades, though all forms of mathematics were agonizing to him, remaining what he called his "bete noire" throughout life. --Charles Gallenkamp, [2]Dragon Hunter: Roy Chapman Andrews and the Central Asiatic Expeditions

Bte noire is French for "black beast."

obsidian (ob-SID-ee-uhn) noun

A dark volcanic glass formed by rapid cooling of lava.

[From Latin obsidianus, from obsidianus lapis, from mis-reading of

obsianus lapis (Obsius's stone), after Obsius, a Roman, who (according to Pliny the elder) was the discoverer of this kind of stone in Ethiopia.]

Here's a picture of obsidian:

"Hernan Cortes didn't conquer Mexico: it was just one stroke of bastard's luck after another that his head didn't end up on the

Aztec skull racks. With his cackhanded squad dead before Spanish typhus could sap their empire, the Aztecs could have challenged European settlement in North America (wagon trains versus obsidian knives - now there's a scenario)." Veronica Horwell, The What If Game: Veronica Horwell Speculates on History's Near Misses, The Guardian (London), Jun 10, 2000.

the picture of obsidian is very interesting.

well in other news katie was over joyed about the new amp and i would like to give a shout out to cathrine loya for organizing the whole extravaganza.

my job at mameco is very boring, tedious, and messy. i would not do it for any thing less than the large amount i am being paid to do it. it will be a long summer. i did get to pick out my steel-toed boots and i could not resist getting the harley davidson boots. they are hilarious, i will wear them all the time.

ok well i gotta go. i hope you all have alovely day!!

oh and steve the card was great, thank you!!!
