beautiful day, 2 Corinthians 4:8-5:7, aporia, classes
2002-9-11 1:50 p.m.

it is a beautiful day outside. the bright blue sky with the luming cumulus clouds, the green grass, the warm (but not too hot) sun, the gentle breeze wafting the smell of corn dogs from the dinning hall. it doesn't get much better than this.

and on of all days the anniversary of september 11. here is a fitting verse to commemorate:[for those of you who could care less please scroll down to the word which is pretty good]

2 Corinthians 4:8-5:7

We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.

For while we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you.

Since we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, "I believed, and so I spoke," we too believe, and so we speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed every day. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, because we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Here indeed we groan, and long to put on our heavenly dwelling, so that by putting it on we may not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we sigh with anxiety; not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.

He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. So we are always of good courage; we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight.

dude Amen to all of my brothers and sisters

so uhh yeah, word:

aporia (uh-POR-ee-uh) noun

1. An expression of doubt.

2. Contradiction, paradox, or confusion posed by the presence of conflicting propositions.

[From Late Latin, from Greek aporos without passage), from poros (passage).]

"If cults were typically founded in response to disaster or plague, why are cults proliferating today? What calamity is driving people into them? The answer seems to be a general aporia: a loss of meaning or of nerve, a thirst for simple answers in the face of overwhelming complexity." Daniel Dennett, Appraising Grace, Sciences (New York), Jan/Feb 1997.

"Here lies the aporia, the inflexible point of contradiction in the Document and in the vision of NEPAD as conceived." Remi Raji, NEPAD: Questing the Forgotten Component, This Day (Lagos, Nigeria) Aug 1, 2002.(NEPAD = The New Partnership for Africas Development)
