today was pretty productive. i was well rested, i unpacked and re-assembled my room as well as help with the thanksgiving preparation. here is a word appropriot for today:
edacious i-DAY-shus, adjective:
Given to eating; voracious; devouring.
Swallowed in the depths of edacious Time.--Thomas Carlyle
[S]omething that... will dismay edacious lips. --"The late showman," Independent, August 21, 1999
Our... high-toned irritability, edacious appetites, and pampered constitutions. --Isaac Taylor, Natural History of Enthusiasm
Edacious is from Latin edax, edac-, gluttonous, consuming, from edo, edere, to eat.
while we are on words someone emailed the word a day guy that i get the words from and asked if he was worried about running out of words. this was his response:
" "I realize you've been sending words out for some nine years now, do you think you'll ever run out of 'em?" a reader asked me recently. Well, thanks to the nature of the English language, we'll never have to worry about that. New words are coined every day, old ones take new meanings, and we continue to import words from other languages and make them our own. If anything, dictionaries are expanding every year to include many of these new entries. So, no worries about running out of words."
how fun
