LOG: Spring Break 2004 Day 4: The Bad Beginning
2004-03-22 8:37 p.m.

Day 4: Monday 22 March 2004

0010- We arrive at Claires house in Omaha, Nebraska.

0012- St. Claire is the patron saint of television. Elizas gift kept a glowing watch on us all night. Amazing.

1021- We are at the 13th Street Coffee Company here in Omaha. It is really weird to me that we are in Nebraska.

1055- We pass a car with two old ladies nestled in amongst the largest possible amount of recycling you could fit in a little car. They also had a got Jesus? bumper sticker. Way to keep it real ladies.

1100-1102 Katie will only talk like an auctioneer.

1156- Jess-You just wait, Ill get us in to see that one stone carving for free

Katie-do you mean Mt. Rushmore?

Jess-mmmhmmm

1232- We arrive in South Dakota. According to the sign there is great faces and great places

1325- After making up a five minute song about the anticipated breakfast buffet at our soon to be hotel Katie says we need to get gas Jess replies no that is tomorrow morning at the breakfast buffet

1404- We pass a water tower with the initials M.C.W.C. on it. Jessica kindly explains that it stands for milk cows with cows

1530- We are just leaving Mitchel, South Dakota. We visited the Corn Palace and the Enchanted Doll Museum. Absolutely Fantastic.

1620- Shadowfax (our car) stopped showing us the meaning of haste and broke down just past the 291 mile post of the Platte, South Dakota (aka the middle of no where). An inadequate and unhelpful police officer gives us a tow number.

1628- The tow truck is busy. We pray a lot.

1640- The tow truck comes to get us b/c he doesnt like the lady who called first. Not so busy after all.

1644- We arrive at Overweg Repair in Kimball, South Dakota. Dan, the nicest man in South Dakota informs us that the engine blew up and there nothing you can do with out replacing the engine. Our father is dismayed over the telephone.

1655- We cancel our breakfast buffet hotel :(

1657- We drag all of our stuff to the super 8 motel across the street

1704- After much trouble finding the manager/clerk/maid we check into the super 8 that has only 10 rooms.

1740- After our second trip to the car, we settle into our room.

1807- Our father calls and tells us to rent a car and keep on driving and that he and Bob are going to drive out and get it on Friday.

1845- We are dismayed to find there is no food locators provided by the hotel.

1850- After memorizing the phone book, Katie realizes that a diner has the same address as the gas station across the street.

1915- Doo Wah Dittys Diner is hilarious. Funny menu and pretty good food.

2023- We retire to the Super 8 trying not to despair.
